Belize vs Honduras

How are They Similar?

There has been a lot of inquiries and debates we've seen comparing Belize to Honduras. While we are admittedly biased because Belize is better, we are going to try and showcase the strengths of both equally.

They are both frequently cited as being ideal locations to travel for salty activities but I would argue that they are starkly different in terms of overall experience.

To start, the primary language in Belize is English which can be the game-changer depending on your language skills and how early you are into your diving and snorkeling exploits.

Next they are virtually neighbors and share many similar features such as similar coastal structures and thus they also feature similar flight costs as well.

Belize vs Honduras

Next we are going to compare them based on the following categories:

Scuba Diving

While both have great scuba diving experiences admittedly, Honduras is lacking in one key feature. They don't have anything that is truly a cut above any other place that is near an ocean, has coral, and requires scuba gear.

Belize however, has the Great Blue Hole, which is featured on every single top 10 scuba dives in the world article that you can find. Plus it is a great photo. It also features 3 of the 4 atolls in the hemisphere.

Snorkeling

Now I've read some arguments online that snorkeling is better in the Roatan islands in Honduras because you can just walk out to the water and go, but I would argue the same for some parts of Ambergris Caye.

So if you want to play it safe and never try your hand at snorkeling, Honduras might be the place for you if that is the sole criteria for your travels.

Fishing

This is going to be the tie breaker admittedly and it all depends on what you like to fish.

I will concede that you have a better chance at having a better haul at sport fishing in Honduras. The calmer waters from fewer keys and corals make it ripe to hit the open water quickly and catch swordfish, marlins, you name it.

However, if you are looking for reef fishing, then Belize will have some of the tastiest grabs that you can get under the sun and all while being able to reach a bar in less than ten minutes. In addition, the flats fishing (fly or reel) in Belize is unmatched.
