Xunantunich Ruins and the Belize Zoo Day

Visit an ancient Maya city and mix some of Belize's most exotic animals in this full-day tour of the Xunantunich ruins and the unique Belize Zoo. To get to Xunantunich, you’ll cross the Mopan River on a hand cranked ferry bridge before proceeding to the higher ground. Climb one of the region’s most beautiful ceremonial temples for 360 views of the abundant valley surrounding this once great city.

At trip to the Belize Zoo is an unforgettable wildlife experience. The zoo is home to more than 175 animals of about 48 species, all native to Belize. The zoo is built in the natural environment of Belize. Gravel trails lead the visitors through dense, natural vegetation of the local forest. The Belize Zoo is committed to educating visitors about the wildlife native to the region. You will encounter these rescued animals in their natural habitat.

Belize Zoo and Cave Tubing/Zip Lining Day

Visit the Belize Zoo as described above and then head off to an afternoon of cave tubing and zip lining.

Float on inner tubes with only your headlamp to light your way as you enter the exciting world of rivers disappearing into the underworld. You’ll be guided along through the mist,, with light streaming through from above, as you see stalagmites and stalactites all around. Cruise by underground waterfalls, knowing that these magnificent caves were home to important religious ceremonies to the ancient Maya.

Then, after lunch, get your harness and safety helmet on and head off to the tree tops of the rainforest. There you’ll safely be attached to the zip line that will have you speeding above the jungle canopy.

Altun Ha Ruins and Maruba JUNGLE Spa Day

Altun Ha —meaning "Rockstone Pond" in Maya — features a man-made lagoon, which remains intact to this day. This popular Mayan site, speckled with tombs, pyramids and temples, served as a trading nexus during the Mayan Empire's Classic Period (A.D. 250 to 900). During your visit, you may see deer, foxes, birds, and crocodiles in, and around, Rockstone Pond. Also, explore the Temple of the Green Tomb, where the priest-kings were buried with luxurious jade, pottery and pearls. These the ruins are amazing. However, the uphill hike to the site can be a challenge. It’s a wonderful visit for the hiking enthusiast.

Lamanai Ruins with New River Adventure Day

After a short flight to the mainland, you’ll be escorted via van to Orange Walk Town (known locally as Sugar City), where you will hop on board a boat that begins the jungle tour up the New River. There, your tour guides will point out the wild life all around you. You’ll likely see spider monkeys, crocodiles, and a variety of birds along the banks of the New River.

On arrival at Lamanai Site, which is situated off the New River Lagoon, you will be treated to a delicious Belizean buffet-style lunch. After lunch, you’ll start hiking to the temples of Lamanai. While making your way on the path be on the lookout for Howler monkeys and the beautiful Toucans which are native to the area.   

At the Lamanai Maya ruins you will get to look at the High Temple, Mask Temple, Jaguar Temple, the Ball Court area, and the residential area. Your tour guide will give you detailed information on the significance of each area. Then, if you wish, climb up the High Temple via the original stairway built by the Mayas, and get a spectacular panoramic view of the lagoon and the surrounding jungle.
