With Sadness…Today APRIL 23, all three Belize celebrations WERE Cancelled. We look forward to LOBSTERFEST 2021!
LobsterFest – A Belize Tradition since 1994
While the people of the world pause and “stay in place”, they can only dream about the next vacation they’ll take. We’ve always been optimists and are hoping that you are doing your own dreaming about where you’'ll run off to when the planes start flying again. If your ideal vacation is a beach in the Caribbean, listening to reggae music, drinking rum cocktails while eating fresh seafood, we hope you’ll dream about visiting Belize during its LobsterFest celebrations. Belize is a country that will always finds a reason to bring people together for food, drinks, music, and fun! LobsterFest is a celebration of the opening of lobster fishing season in Belize, which occurs on June 15th every year. LobsterFest is now celebrated in tourist areas along the Caribbean Sea coastline of this beautiful Central American country.
LobsterFest started in 1994 on Caye Caulker. It was developed when the Island Veterans Football Club got together on weekends to party and someone suggested a festival to mark the beginning of lobster season. Two of the team members, the captain and vice-captain, were both fishermen. That July (later changed to June), the Caye Caulker LobsterFest was born. Since then it has grown in size and reach, now attracting international attention. It is, by a wide margin, the most popular event on this lovely island, where the motto is “go slow”.
It didn’t take long for the idea to spread. If nothing else, Belizeans love an opportunity to enjoy life together. Today, the three biggest LobsterFest celebrations take place in San Pedro on Ambergris Caye, Placencia in the south of the country, and on Caye Caulker. Select any of these locations as your base for lobster fun and get ready for all the festivities both day and night. You will find much to do, including playing water sports, competitions, beach parties, dancing and live concerts. There are goofy (and serious) beauty pageants (you can dress as a lobster, you won’t be the only one), cold drinks aplenty, concerts featuring Belizean music and reggae artists, and street & beach parties starting early in the day and going well into the night.
But don’t forget, this is the opening of lobster season, so bring your appetite and thirst. You’ll be dazzled by the hundreds of different preparations of mouth-watering Caribbean lobster. Belizean chefs will work tirelessly to bring you their finest preparations of this magnificent gastro-delicacy. You’ll not only enjoy the cuisine, you’ll also be able to enjoy meeting our friendly locals and other visitors as we all come together to celebrate. No matter which of these places you choose for your return to paradise, LobsterFest is an ideal time to come to Belize. You’ll find beautiful weather, the palm trees swaying in the breeze, music to soothe your soul, indescribably good food, every exotic rum cocktail, and your troubles in the past.
If you can come to Belize to experience any of the LobsterFest 2020 celebrations. We can help as we have numerous relationships with hotels in all three areas and can assist you with your planning and booking. We can also take care of all of your in-country air and ground transportation, as well as help you to book your sea and land adventures. Let us know if you’d like more information. We hope to see you here in Belize soon. We can’t wait for the planes to start arriving here bringing travelers back to our beautiful shores. The perfect antidote to having “sheltered in place” may just be the Belize Caribbean Sea at LobsterFest.
