Happy Holidays from Belize!

AAAAAhhhhh The Christmas Parades

IMG_1101.jpeg

When you’re from Minnesota USA, it’s easy to forget that the month is December when the weather is 85 and sunny most days. As such, getting in the holiday spirit is harder than it would otherwise be. Belizeans, especially here in San Pedro Town, have always found ways to celebrate, including festivals, pageants, and parades. Christmas is at the top of the list for celebrations. A few weeks ago, we enjoyed the festive lighted boat parade, a mostly adult undertaking. We hopped aboard YOLO (You Only Live Once), this grand pontoon loaded with a full bar and the most amazing staff, as well as your classy host, Rambo! This fabulous adventure takes you to the Caribbean Sea to gaze upon the lighted boats of wonder. You will see many different boats lit up from from Crocodiles on the water an a lighted Hammerhead Shark, and much, much more! We highly recommend this once in a lifetime experience and there is no better way to do it than on YOLO! We love them!

But if the water is not your thing, then get out your rented golf cart or grab a stool at the local bar to enjoy the festival of lights all on golf carts. You will see and hear parades of children making merry Christmas music as they stroll along the streets, following lit up golf carts. This extravaganza is filled with so much love from locals, local expats, and visitors from afar! Get down to Boca Del Rio early to grab a spot as this parade is one you won’t want to miss as you celebrate your Holiday time in Belize! It is a “lighted” parade which means it will get started when the sun goes down, so settle in with some snacks or a hearty dinner at your local diner or bar as you wait for the grand lighted Christmas Parade to begin!
