Goff's Caye

If you get a chance to take a boat trip, one we highly recommend is to Goff’s Caye.  This short 1 hour boat trip (from San Pedro) past Caye Caulker, then speeding through the mangroves takes you to a small island off the shores of Belize. This Caye is located on the north side of the English Channel and sits on the edge of the magnificent Belize Barrier Reef. Goff’s Caye is only about an acre in size and is a registered as an archaeological site and therefore is one of the Cayes in Belize that is not privately owned.  During Colonial times this Caye was a trade center and a cemetery. 

There are many ways to experience Goff’s Caye, the snorkeling around this gem is amazing, and the diving nearby is quite remarkable. In fact, these were some of the best dives I have done, where we saw turtles, spotted scorpion fish, spotted eagle rays, spotted eels, green eels  -- you name it. 

If you want a quiet, exclusive feel, I recommend the best time to head out to Goff’s Caye is a Saturday, Sunday, or Monday, as the other days of the week often involve cruise ship passengers taking an excursion to this peaceful spot.   I am not surprised this is popular with the cruise passengers, as the pictures do not do Goff’s Caye justice!  The beautiful sandy beaches are perfect for swimming or suntanning.

If you head out to Goff’s Caye, you can expect beautiful Caribbean blue water, white sandy beaches, a covered spot to have lunch and gorgeous views out into the open water. Don’t forget your sunscreen and snorkel gear as this magnificent spot is one not to be missed if you are staying on Ambergris Caye or Caye Caulker!
