10 Day Jungle/Snorkel Itinerary

There are so many places to enjoy while visiting this beautiful country. We can take all the hassle out of planning your next Belize Happy Adventure. But first let’s get you here! Any way you slice it, you will arrive first at the Belize International Airport, located in Ladyville, outside of Belize City.  Most of your Happy Adventures will happen outside of the city. Our favorite rainforest and beach vacation will have you first traveling inland to the mountainous jungle of western Belize, then settling in near San Ignacio. This lovely small town is near the Guatemala border. After 3 nights on your mainland visit, you can grab a small plane and head to San Pedro in Ambergris Caye.

So, let’s start planning the GREAT Belize 10-day ESCAPE!

Day One:

Arrive into BZE (Belize Airport Code), if you are a big group, we recommend the 14-person white stretch limo for a 2 hour drive into the jungle, taking in the sights of this beautiful country, all in first-class style.  If, however, you want to get to San Ignacio quickly, you can hop on local air transportation.

We highly recommend The Lodge at Chaa Creek as the “go to” resort hotel near San Ignacio in the Cayo district. The grounds of this eco-luxury resort are magnificent. Get checked into your hotel, walk the property, grab some dinner, and get ready for 2 days of fun in the jungle.

Xuanantunich Mayan Ruins

Day Two:

A trip to Belize is not complete until one experiences a visit to Mayan ruins. Rise bright and early, grab a hearty free breakfast to start your day at Chaa Creek. First stop will be Xunantunich (pronounced 'Shoo - Nan - Tu - Nich'), whose name comes from a legendary folktale about the ghost of a woman who as locals have it inhabited the sacred grounds as far back as the late 1800’s. Xunantunich features the El Castillo pyramid, the second largest structure in Belize. The Xunantunich grounds are superbly maintained and include a very interesting and informative museum. After your historic visit to one of these beautiful ruins, your tour should be interrupted by a quick bite to eat in town. The next stop will be Barton Creek Cave.

The Barton Creek Cave is located on a family farm and is now one of the most popular tour destinations in Cayo. Barton Creek Cave was named by Mother Nature Network to a list of “nine of the world’s most beautiful and unusual cave destinations”.

Upon arrival you will be greeted by your happy and knowledgeable tour guide who will get you equipped to begin your cave adventure via canoe! This half day of fun is an amazing adventure for the young or the old, and is one that will be forever in your memory.

Day Three:

Zip Lining

Zip Lining

Time for another nummy breakfast at Chaa Creek before your next full day in the jungle begins. Zip Lining and Cave Tubing is a MUST do.  Once you arrive to Cave Branch, the first stop is zip lining, which will take you through the canopy of the Belize’s rain forest for about an hour.

After the zip line fun, it is time to get fitted for your cave tubing journey. The hike to the tubing start will consist of interesting stories from your guide.  You may just even taste some of the local vegetation.

Day Four:

The jungle portion of the trip comes to end. It is time to head to Ambergris Caye for your beach vacation.  We recommend a flight directly (1 hour) from San Ignacio to San Pedro. However, if you want more adventure, you can take a van/limo ride (2.5-hours) to the ferry (which takes 1.5 hours), and arrive at the downtown San Pedro docks. Either way the Caribbean Sea awaits you!

Day Five:

Hop aboard your very own golf cart

Hop aboard your very own golf cart

We have many places we recommend to stay on Ambergris Caye. If you are looking for an Airbnb, luxury hotel, boutique hotel, or a hostel, the choices are endless. There are only a few reasons to come to Ambergris Caye, the barrier reef. Here snorkelers, divers, or fisherpersons will find the nearby reef to be the perfect source of holiday fun! You will need to get you acclimated to the slow Caribbean lifestyle. We recommend getting a golf cart to do some exploring around the Caye. Take in the downtown, do a little light shopping, stop in to a local restaurant for yummy island delights.

Day Six:

Day with Tuff E Nuff

Day with Tuff E Nuff

Another MUST do, take the Tuff E Nuff full-day snorkeling adventure on the catamaran to Hol Chan/Shark Ray Alley and then lunch at Caye Caulker. The afternoon sail back from Caye Caulker includes rum punch, cold beverages, freshly made ceviche, and island music. After a long day in the sun and surf you may just wind up sleeping in a hammock before heading out for a late dinner.

Day Seven:

A leisurely morning should then be followed by a day at (not so secret) Secret Beach. Secret. It can be an all-day beachfront adventure in the turquoise blue waters on the calm side of the Caye. Bring plenty of sunscreen to this fun tourist destination. And, don’t forget to have the chicken wings at Pirates at Secret Beach. The BEST on the Caye.

Day Eight:

Bacalar Chico Sunset

Bacalar Chico Sunset

We recommend the Bacalar Chico excursion for a full day adventure, navigating all the way north and around to the other side of the Caye. The trip will include snorkeling, reef fishing, swimming, and a shore lunch prepared by your boat crew., Bacalar Chico National Park and Marine Reserve is a protected area and UNESCO World Heritage Site on the northern part of Ambergris Caye in Belize. It is the area which makes up the modern-day border, on the Yucatan Peninsula, between Mexico and Belize. The last part of this near circumnavigation of the Caye is a slow ride down the sunset side of the Caye.

Day Nine:

If you have not had enough snorkeling, take in Mexico Rocks with SeaStar Belize. If you are waterlogged try a day in San Pedro Town. There you can make your way up and down the Isla Bonita, bar hopping, and maybe even get a massage over the water at Massage by the Reef upstairs from Amigos Del Mar.

Day Ten:

Now it’s time to leave Belize and say goodbye to the fabulous time you had in the rainforest and the Caribbean Sea!

We know you’ll want to come back soon for more Happy Adventures!
