The LoveFM Holiday Parade

When you’re from Minnesota USA, it’s easy to forget that the month is December when the weather is 85 and sunny most days. As such, getting in the holiday spirit is harder than it would otherwise be. Belizeans, especially here in San Pedro Town, have always found ways to celebrate, including festivals, pageants, and parades. Christmas is at the top of the list for celebrations. Last week, we had the lighted boat parade, a mostly adult undertaking, for mostly adults. Last night, the LoveFM Holiday Parade was a family affair! It seemed as though every person on the Caye was either in the parade or watching the parade, including children of all ages. For a couple hours all traffic (and seemingly all normal life) was halted as the parade made its way from the bridge to Central Park. Carts were lit, adults and kids alike were costumed, children performed, and candy and gifts were distributed to happy kids along the route. It was a special night and I hope to it continues to be a feature of life here in San Pedro.
